ESCALATION OF SANCTIONS PRESSURE: NEW RISKS FOR RUSSIA’S FOREIGN TRADE
24-39 | 506.4 KB | Full text |
Abstract
The article examines the specifics of the escalation of sanctions pressure on Russia in 2024 and its impact on Russian foreign trade. It is shown that the current modification of the sanctions policy of unfriendly countries, implemented since the end of 2023, is aimed at finally “disconnecting” Russia from the commodity markets of unfriendly and many neutral countries and is implemented through active opposition to the Russian strategy of circumventing restrictions, including by scaling secondary sanctions, as well as expanding the lists of sanctioned goods, individuals and legal entities. The risks of unwinding the “sanctions spiral” for Russia’s exports and imports are highlighted, taking into account the global markets conditions.
Keywords: anti-Russian sanctions, Russian foreign trade, Russian exports and imports, global prices, global commodity markets.
